Goddess Rising returns for a fourth year
International Womenâs Day returns for a fourth year in Fernie, and encourages all women from throughout the Elk Valley to come and take part. Stay for a half hour massage or enjoy the whole day of 12+ workshops and speakers, and a wonderful hearty lunch. Celebrate with your sisters, daughters, mothers and friends.
Goddess Rising will take place at the Fernie Community Centre on Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with workshops hosted by Chantel Vincent – Social Media for Small Businesses, Francesca ter Poorten of Essential Yoga about rediscovering your Feminine power.
We have two workshops looking at the upcoming gardening year, focussing on getting started in the garden and worm composting. We have interactive Yoga Dance and Acro-Yoga sessions and singing. You can learn how to make your own soap that will not only save you money but is much nicer than anything you can buy in the store. We also have creative workshops to explore your writing and goal setting with some vision boarding. Finally we have two workshops that look at emotional stress and emotional based eating and how to address these. The highly successful pampering session from last year return bigger and better, but always fully book ahead of the event so be sure to register on line.
Goddess Rising is a not-for-profit event that is organized by two local women who wanted to give back to their community and bring women together in a day of celebration. The event is free, but door donations and silent auction profits do go towards the very successful female specific scholarship, that was launched at least years event, for graduating young women who reside in the valley. In the first year we gave $2,000 away to three local girls, we hope that this will be the same value if not higher this year. Grade 12 girls who apply need to bring their application forms in person to the event on March 12.
Tanya Malcolm, one of the organizers said, âWe are so excited that the event is going from strength to strength each year with more and more of the speakers approaching us to be involved in the event ahead of time. We are so grateful to all the people who help to support this event by giving their time to be involved in the event as well as the donations for the silent auction.â
Pre-registration for all workshops and pampering session on the event day are encouraged as many sell out ahead of time. The event is free (by donation at door) with all workshops free, and pampering sessions by donation. A healthy and hearty $8 lunch will be served and can be purchased on the day.
IWD was founded in 1910 and now takes place in countries throughout the world with thousands of events on every continent and a global collective of women taking part. It was designed as a strategy to promote equal rights and suffrage for women.
âThe story of womenâs struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,â stated Gloria Steinem.
