Griz Days rollicks this weekend in Fernie

Are you ready to get your Griz on?

Fernie is the place to be this weekend (Feb. 28 to March 2) for family and not-so-family events and fun with the return of Griz Days.

‘Vintage formal’ is this year’s theme, which will be on display in the noteworthy change to this year’s festival – the annual Griz Days Parade, which is being held Friday evening (Feb. 28) at 6:30 p.m. In recent years the parade has been held on Saturday evenings.

Saturday, March 1 promises to be a blast for all ages, starting with a pancake breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Seniors’ Centre.

The Extreme Griz competition gets rocking on Saturday, starting with a pancake eating contest at 10:30 a.m. at the Seniors’ Centre. Contestants’ bellies stuffed full of flapjacks, they then take part in the Obstacle Course at Fernie City Hall grounds at 11:15 a.m. (or so).

Extreme Griz competitors fill the rest of the day with: axe throwing (12:15 p.m.) and Keg Toss and Caber (1:15 p.m.) at the Park Place Pub parking lot. At 4 p.m. the competition moves to 2nd Avenue for the Vintage Truck Pull, followed by a final challenge and crowning of the 2025 Extreme Griz.

If following the Extreme Griz antics doesn’t ruffle your fun fur, don’t worry – there is a whack of things to do across Saturday, with plenty of entertainment at Station Square, including fireworks at 8:45 p.m.

Don’t forget to buy your Griz Pins!
