Kaeley Jade performing in Elkford and Fernie
Up-and-coming Edmonton alt-folk artist Kaeley Jade will be performing in the Elk Valley when her forthcoming album, ‘The Great Unknown’ drops on April 10.
The Canadian Folk Music Awards winner for ‘Indigenous Songwriter of the Year,’ and nominee for ‘New/Emerging Artist(s) of the Year’ and ‘Contemporary Singer of the Year (2024)’ will be bringing her Home Routes tour to Elkford on Thursday, April 9 and Fernie on April 10.
Produced by JUNO Award-winner Hill Kourkoutis, The Great Unknown is a cinematic plunge into the dread, conflict, and uncertainty that arise at life’s turning points.
With a BFA in Acting and an active career across theatre, film and television, Jade brings a deeply theatrical and emotionally immersive lens to her songwriting. She has even described this as her “Noah Kahan-inspired album,” nodding to its heartfelt lyricism and expansive folk textures.
The album features eight new songs, including the previously released singles “The Ceiling” and “Wisest Fool.” Her DIY approach to visuals is just as compelling as the music, and the videos are well worth a watch. Be sure to check out one of my fave tracks, “August,” and the album title track is stunning.
Jade shared: “I want my music to be cathartic. I want people to have fun at my shows. I want people to feel seen, heard, and reflected in the words I share. I want to be a source of positive change in the world!”
Her perspective on genre is equally thoughtful: “I think the idea of genre has metamorphosed into more of an idea of ‘which community do you most strongly identify with?’ Through that lens, I feel the most connected to the values within the folk community.”
She also recently shared the single Never Come Home Again.
