Mitigation work continues in Jaffrey after spill
The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) passed along an update from the Ministry of Environment and Interior Health on mitigation efforts concerning the fuel spill in Jaffray.
Work is expected to continue throughout the weekend. Current activities include ongoing water sample testing. Interior Health reports at this time there is no evidence of impacts to drinking water from the spill.
Ongoing monitoring is required due to potential impacts in the future and continues under the direction of Ministry of Environment. The precautionary Water Quality Advisory for Jaffray remains in effect, the RDEK noted.
Collection and removal of diesel contaminants in water in the soil are ongoing from the recovery trench and additional observation holes.
