The mine rescue teams representing Elk Valley Resources (EVR) had an outstanding showing at the 67th annual B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition – placing first overall in both the Surface Mine Rescue and Three-person First Aid categories.

This annual competition, held June 6-7 at the Britannia Mine Museum, brought together 16 teams from around the province who competed in challenges testing their essential emergency response skills, including firefighting, first aid and rope rescue in simulated conditions.

Mine rescue team members are an elite group with specialized skills and training and serve as the mine’s fire department, paramedics and high angle rescue teams.

“We are very proud of all our mine rescue and first aid team members across our four operations and their strong showing at the B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition is a testament to their dedication and skills,” said Mike Carrucan, CEO, EVR. “At EVR, safety is more than a priority — it’s a core value. These results reflect the countless hours of training and the deep sense of responsibility our team members have to ensure everyone goes home safe, every day.”

Taking home first place in the overall Surface Mine Rescue category was the team from EVR’s Line Creek Operations, with team members Harley Marshall (Captain), Kyle Brennan (Vice Captain), Jay Marshall, Kenan Ligertwood, Kyle Laboucane, JP Wallin, Coleen O’Neill, Alex Isaacs (Emergency Response Coordinator), Patrick Sorensen (Coach) and Shaun Kennedy (Coach).

The trophy in the Three-person First Aid competition went to the EVR team from our Fording River Operations, with team members Jared Willett (Captain), James Dixon, Chris Olsen, Vaughn Willett (Coach) and Danica Newham (Coach).

EVR took first place in the following categories:

Fording River Operations team members: Steve Kavanagh (Captain), Aaron Reid (Vice Captain), Ron Parks, Michael LeGrice, Matt Wieler, Wesley St. Aubin, Soni Rahul, Ashley Charette (Emergency Response Coordinator), Dustin Smith (Coach), Jamie Fulton (Coach), George Baird (Coach), Chad Kniert (Coach) and Jordan Payton (Coach).

A special honourable mention goes to the Three-person First Aid team from EVR’s Greenhills Operations for placing second overall with team members Jordan Halladay (Captain), Josh Prince, Kevin Edwards, Ethan Lukkar, Dylan Gray (Emergency Response Coordinator) and Terry Halladay (Coach).
