RV destroyed in Victoria Day fire near Tie Lake

Members of the Jaffray Fire Department responded to a recreational vehicle fire near Tie Lake Monday afternoon.

“We were alerted to the fire by recreationalists who happened across the burning structure while they were out on their ATVs,” explained Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley.

“Upon arrival, it appears as though the fire may have started sometime overnight and the trailer is a full loss.  There was no sign of occupants in or around the trailer and, at this time, it appears that no one was home at the time the fire broke out.”

A total of six firefighters and four pieces of apparatus responded to the fire; however, due to the remote location, firefighters could only access the site with their small wildland engines.  RCMP and BC Wildfire also responded in support.

The fire has now been fully extinguished. Firefighters remained on site through the afternoon to ensure things were fully cooled and there were no hot spots.

“I want to thank the members of the public for calling it in. It is so important for us to have those eyes and ears across the region who are willing to call things in when they see them,” adds Hockley.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and anyone who knows the owner of the RV is asked to contact RCMP or the Jaffray Fire Department.
