The District of Sparwood is in the process of updating its Zoning Bylaw.

This document sets out the rules and regulations respecting land uses within the community, such as setbacks, building size and property uses. The current Zoning Bylaw, which was adopted in 1981, has seen many site-specific amendments without a comprehensive review.

The purpose of this update is to modernize the bylaw, check-in with the community and business owners on any potential changes they may like to see, and to ensure consistency with the district’s Official Community Plan, which was adopted in 2015.

A public open house will be held at the Senior’s Drop-in Centre on Wednesday, February 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. This will provide the community with an opportunity to share their input on the bylaw and help guide the decision- making process. Following public consultation and best practices research, additional opportunities for the public input will be provided when the draft bylaw is prepared in early spring.

Acting Mayor John Baher is looking forward to the initiative: “Updating our Zoning Bylaw will help us modernize our land use regulations and ensure the bylaw is working for the community,” he said.
