Hearing slated for garbage bag elimination
The District of Sparwood is holding a public hearing Monday, August 15 regarding banning the use of plastic garbage bags (alone) and requiring garbage cans for storage of trash prior to curb-side pick up.
The district has issued a notice of amendment to Utility and Solid Waste Management Bylaw No. 1014, 2009, which proposes the requirement of: garbage cans in all residential zones with the exception of those equipped with commercial containers, and eliminate the use of standalone plastic garbage bags; and animal resistant enclosures in campgrounds, the C-2 Highway Commercial Zone, and the C-3 Neighbourhood Commercial Zone in addition to the previous requirement for animal resistant enclosures in the R-3 High Density Residential Zone; and permit the alternative option for certified bear proof commercial containers.
