The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the August 2 District of Sparwood council meeting.

BUSINESS

Community Funding and Support Request

Council approved the allocation of $228.44 in kind from the Community Funding and Support Program to Edie Holland in support of the Terry Fox Foundation Sparwood Run to be held on September 18 at the Sparwood Leisure Centre Spray Park.

Strategic Priorities

Council approved the Strategic Priorities – Quarterly Update. The summary is updated quarterly to communicate staff progress towards the strategic priorities that were reviewed and updated by council at the August 31, 2021 council meeting.

2022 Paving Program

The 2022 paving program includes four locations. There are two locations on Ponderosa Drive, from Sparwood Heights Drive to Cherrywood Boulevard and a key spot repair which has been a drainage issue for years, located roughly 200m south from the Pinyon Road/Ponderosa Drive intersection. The third location at the Douglas Fir Road/Pine Ave intersection includes Pine Avenue to Engelmann Spruce Drive.

The fourth location, Centennial Street, is taking place concurrently with the Centennial Plaza project and previously approved by council. Council approved the contract with BA Blacktop for $610,611.37 plus applicable taxes to complete this work.

Concession Lease Agreement

The Concessions Lease Agreement in the Sparwood Leisure Centre with Michele Dwyer has been renewed again as approved by council.

UPCOMING DISTRICT COUNCIL MEETINGS

The following meetings will take place in Council Chambers (136 Spruce Avenue) at 6 p.m.

• Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 6.
