Sparwood Council Facts

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Sept. 20 District of Sparwood council meeting.

BYLAWS

Council Remuneration Bylaw

After the September 6, Regular Council Meeting, staff was made aware of an error in the repeal date in the Council Remuneration Bylaw. Council rescinded the third reading to amend the date and gave third reading as amended. The bylaw will set the Mayor and councillors remuneration for the 2022-2026 term.

New Youth Action Sparwood Coordinator

Jennifer Hegedus has been appointed as the new Youth Action Sparwood Coordinator and Events and Volunteer Coordinator. Jen is a lifelong resident of Sparwood and may be recognized from a previous role as Lifeguard/Instructor at the Leisure Centre. Jen has a passion for community service and supporting youth and is excited to connect with Sparwood teens and volunteers. Though the role is big, she is up for the challenge and excited to continue to make a positive impact in the community.

Beware of Hungry Bears

The District of Sparwood would like to remind residents to take simple precautions to prevent attracting bears into the community. Bears seek sources of food that can include garbage and bird feed. Garbage MUST be placed in the bear-resistant carts with the clips LOCKED or in a secure garage, shed or inside your house until 5 a.m. on your collection day – violations could result in $100 fine.
