Sparwood Council Facts

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the July 18 District of Sparwood council meeting.

Centennial Street East Sidewalk

The Centennial Plaza project is finishing up this summer and the contractor has some additional pavers onsite.

Prior to demobilization, district staff requested a quote to utilize the unused material since there would cost saving from not having to haul the pavers in again. The sidewalk along Centennial Street will require replacement in the coming years. As the current contractor is in the municipality and has some of the materials onsite, it is a favourable time to complete the work. The pavers would match to the same materials being used in the Plaza, as there is some concern matching materials may not be available in a few years’ time.

Council has approved this project subject to communication with the businesses.

Infrastructure Planning Grant

Council approved staff to proceed with applying for a $10,000 grant from the Province of British Columbia to put towards the building condition assessment project for 2024. This project will allow staff to accurately make long-term capital plans for necessary repairs, upgrades and replacements.

COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

Fire Hall #2 Renovation and Expansion

The committee heard from the Fire Services department regarding the Fire Hall #2 Renovation and Expansion project and have given full support to proceed with grant applications due to the operational challenges, health and safety needs of volunteer firefighters, and the need for improved facilities.
