Sparwood Council Facts
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the December 19 District of Sparwood council meeting.
DELEGATION
Teck Resources Ltd.
Rory O’Connor and Norm Fraser, representing Teck Resources Ltd., provided council with an annual review which included: Sale of Teck Resources Ltd.; Fording River Extension Project; Update Looking Ahead to 2024.
BYLAWS
Cemetery Management Bylaw
The Cemetery Management Bylaw was adopted. The main changes were to remove the fees and add them to the Fees and Charges Bylaw, administrative changes, and the form and character definitions. This will come into effect for January 1, 2024.
The Fees and Charges Bylaw was adopted. Main highlights of the changes are to incorporate the Cemetery Fees and for the addition of a Property File Scan fee to be added to the Administrative Fees schedule. This will come into effect for January 1, 2024.
BUSINESS
Water Use Permit Application – Save On Foods
The Water Use Permit for Save On Foods at 113 Red Cedar Drive to resale municipal water was approved for a five-year term, subject to the conditions listed in the permit.
2024 Community Resiliency Investment Grant
Council has authorized staff to submit the 2024 Community Resiliency Investment Grant application for $146,000 for the FireSmart program development and implementation.
COMMITTEE-OF-THE-WHOLE
Facility Optimization
The committee was provided an in-depth report regarding facility optimization for the Leisure Centre for programming and storage space. After discussion, the committee directed staff to research portable addition solutions for the interim, investigate storage configuration, and gather additional information to report back at a future meeting.
