Sparwood Council Facts
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the April 2 District of Sparwood council meeting.
PARCEL TAX REVIEW PANEL MEETING
The district is required to annually review and authenticate the parcel tax rolls to ensure that we are able to apply parcel taxes to properties for the taxation year. Bylaw No. 1091 assesses the majority of the properties in the district, there will be additions and deletions from the roll due to subdivisions and consolidations. There were no additions or deletions to the rolls for this review year and the Panel authenticated the parcel tax assessment rolls for 2024.
DELEGATION
Back Alley Parking
Brian Parkes, a resident of Sparwood, addressed council on parking restriction during summer months in the back alleys. Council requested staff to include back alley parking considerations when the Traffic Bylaw is reviewed.
BYLAW
Utility and Solid Waste Management Amendment Bylaw
Council gave first three readings to the Utility and Solid Waste Management Amendment Bylaw. The Amendment Bylaw adds a Sani-Star System to the Sani Dump station near the Sparwood Museum. Once installed, there will be a $10 per use charge for recreation vehicle waste.
COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
Multi Purpose Facility discussion
The committee instructed staff to proceed with the steps necessary to form a select committee of council comprised of council, staff, and appointed community members to advance the Multi Purpose Facility project.
