The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the June 3 District of Sparwood council meeting.

DELEGATION

Arshdeep Syan

Arshdeep Syan came before council to request a Letter of Support for his Passenger Transportation Board taxi licence application to start a new cab company in Sparwood. Council instructed staff to draft a letter for their review.

BUSINESS

Community Funding and Support Request

Council approved the following community funding and support request: Sparwood Mixed Slow Pitch League: $1,959 of in-kind support for field rental fees. There is now $13,319 of funding remaining for 2025 requests.

2024 Statement of Financial Information

The District of Sparwood is required to prepare a Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) annually for council approval, to fulfil its requirements under the Financial Information Act, prior to June 30 of each year.

The Financial Information Act details what information is required and the format in which it is to be reported. This includes:

1. a) List of remuneration and expenses paid to or on behalf of elected officials;
2. b) List of remuneration in excess of $75,000 and expenses paid to or on behalf of those employees;
3. c) Consolidated total of remuneration paid to all employees and elected officials during the fiscal year;
4. d) List of the total amount paid to each supplier of goods and services during the fiscal year in excess of 25,000 plus consolidated total of all payments made to suppliers for goods and services during the fiscal year;
5. e) List of grants paid during the year in excess of $25,000 plus consolidated total of all grant payments during the fiscal year;
6. f) Consolidated total of all payments and grants paid during the fiscal year.

The Deputy Director of Finance, Caitlin Ceal, provided an overview of the report to council and they approved the report as presented. A copy of the report is available in the agenda package on Council Portal and will be posted on our website at a future date.
