Sparwood Council Facts

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Sept. 2 District of Sparwood council meeting.

BUSINESS

Engine 1447 use

Council approved the use of Engine 1447 as a reserve unit to backfill the fire fleet, deployable at the request of BC Wildfire and rentable to other agencies. Engine 1447 was replaced last September by Engine 1455. The new Engine 1455 was purchased to meet the requirements of having a frontline engine under 20 years old. Since the purchase of Engine 1455, Engine 1447 has been in storage.

Business Compensation and Expense Policy

The Business Compensation and Expense Policy was approved by council. Updates to the policy include clarity when an employee travels for training on a scheduled day off and allowing seat selection with the economy airfare.

COMMITTEE-OF-THE-WHOLE

Summary of the Zoning and Parking Survey

From June 26 to July 31, the District of Sparwood conducted a public survey to gather input on the re-write of its Zoning and Off-Street Parking Bylaws. These bylaws, originally adopted in 1981 and 1988 respectively, are being updated to improve clarity, address outdated regulations, and better align with the Official Community Plan and Interim Housing Needs Report. Staff provided the summary of those results and will facilitate workshops in the fall of 2025 to explore specific issues and collaboratively develop solutions.

UPCOMING MEETINGS
