Sparwood turning social media comments off

The District of Sparwood reported today that social media comments will now be disabled on municipal social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram.

This change is being made after an evaluation of comments on the district’s social media accounts identified that a substantial number of comments do not meet the municipality’s expectations for constructive or respectful dialogue. Many comments included misinformation, unrelated content or were inappropriate, the district explained

“The district has a responsibility to safeguard staff, uphold respectful conduct, and ensure that information shared with the public remains accurate and timely. Given this, the benefit of disabling comments outweighs the benefit of keeping them enabled,” it said.

Residents are encouraged to communicate with the district via official communication channels, it said, providing a list of them.

• By filling out the ‘contact us form’ on the website.

• By contacting elected officials, staff or a district department directly.

• By emailing [email protected].

• By phone, at 250.425.6271.

• Stopping by the Municipal Office located at 136 Spruce Avenue.

To report a problem, or request a service, residents may also fill out the ‘Service Request form.’
