Sparwood water main flushing underway
District of Sparwood utility operators are currently performing annual uni-directional flushing.
A Uni-Directional Flushing Program is a method of cleaning the inside of water mains within the distribution system. The process creates a high velocity of water flow in a single direction by closing valves to isolate sections of water main and opening hydrants.
The higher flow allows the water to better scour the inner wall to reduce the build-up of any sediment, biofilm, or mineral deposits in the line.
Residents and businesses may notice a decrease in water pressure or discolored water for a short time during the flushing process.
It is important to know that this discolouration is not a public health concern; if you notice discoloration, please simply run your cold water tap for 10-15 minutes until the water runs clear.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Public Works at (250) 425-7760.
