You make a difference – go make a difference

‘You make a difference… go make a difference’ was the theme of a Youth Rally that we attended last month in Kelowna.

There were over 100 youth from all over the East and West Kootenay where we met in Kelowna.  We rented a 15 passenger van from Sparwood and pulled a U-Haul for all our luggage to get there.  At the rally we focused on development and peace and how we, as individuals, can make a difference in our lives and the lives of others.  There were workshops the youth attended and group sessions.   From this weekend we have brainstormed to take that theme and just DO IT!

We have chosen to support:  the Penticton Birthright House.

Birthright is a home that shares and supports families who struggle to make ends meet.  Birthright provides weekly in home support and other practical services such as assisting in moving and setting up other support systems.  During their last quarter Birthright has completed 19 intakes, did 6 pregnancy tests, and shared their support services with over 30 families.  They have lovingly supported seven babies into the Penticton community and continue to work closely with Mothers and Fathers in their journey of parenthood.  They also stock items in this home from clothes, blankets, and toys, to wipes and baby formula.  I spoke with the executive director after one of the workshops  and she mentioned that her needs were ‘diapers right now.’

The idea we have is a ‘DIAPER DRIVE.’

We will take diapers of all sizes, all brands and pull-ups for babies and toddlers.

Our plea is to ask for some community support.  Our goal is to gather 3,000 diapers for the months of June and July.  We would gladly purchase those diapers on your behalf if you would be willing to offer a monetary donation.  A tax receipt will be issued for all donations over $20.
