Young driver killed in crash at Sparwood
Elk Valley Regional RCMP are investigating after a young driver was killed in a two-vehicle collision last night.
On December 12 at 9:55 p.m., Elk Valley RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision at Highway 3 near Red Cedar Drive in Sparwood.
RCMP along with BC Ambulance Service and Sparwood Fire Rescue attended and determined there was a head-on collision between a Dodge pickup truck and Jeep Cherokee.
The 19-year-old driver of the Jeep was found to be with no vital signs – he was extracted from the vehicle and attempts were made to resuscitate him through CPR and the use of an AED however they were unsuccessful, and he was declared deceased on scene.
Several independent witnesses reported seeing the north-bound Jeep swerve into the on-coming southbound lane prior the collision, Elk Valley RCMP reported.
Highway 3 was closed for several hours pending the investigation, and traffic temporarily re-routed through Sparwood.
“Elk Valley RCMP would like to thank all witnesses and first responders who provided assistance in this collision,” RCMP stated.
