25-year service award for local firefighter
By Nowell Berg
City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick April 10 presented volunteer firefighter Dave (Red) Oscarson with a medal and plaque commemorating 25 years of exemplary service at the Kimberley Fire Department.
The Mayor noted that Oscarson is always “first in line to get the job done.”

In a humble response Oscarson said it’s been “fun” and that he joined the fire department to “help out the community.”
Chief Al Collinson and six other firefighters were on hand. Oscarson pointed out the “good group” of fellow firefighters who made the job easier.
For his part, Chief Collinson praised Oscarson for his professionalism and dedication to the department. The Chief also presented Oscarson’s wife Shari with a 25-year pin to acknowledge her contribution in supporting Red.
Chief Collinson pointed out the firefighter with the next longest service has 13 years, so it will be a few years before the next 25-year service medal is presented.
Collinson also announced his retirement which takes effect in May. The city is actively recruiting a new chief.
In other fire department news, volunteers took part in “644.5 hours of fire fighter training” from January to March. One member completed the Hazmat technician training. First quarter training revenue totaled just over $32,000, which is already 38% over projected training revenue for all of 2017.
