BC and Yukon Book Prizes On Tour visiting Kimberley
The BC and Yukon Book Prizes On Tour 2025 is making a special stop in Kimberley this month, thanks to a creative partnership between the Kimberley Public Library and Art Gallery Kimberley.
This artfully curated literary evening will spotlight two of Canada’s most compelling contemporary voices, while celebrating the vital role of the arts in community life.
On Wednesday, May 28 at 6 p.m., Art Gallery Kimberley, located in the reimagined space known locally as “The Laundromat” at 167 Deer Park Avenue, will host a welcoming evening of readings and dialogue with Loghan Paylor and Julie Wilkins, both shortlisted for 2025 BC and Yukon Book Prizes.
Loghan Paylor, an Abbotsford-based author, is a finalist for the Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes with their bold and poignant debut novel “The Cure for Drowning”. Julie Wilkins, based in Squamish, is shortlisted for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize for her beautifully illustrated and heartfelt picture book “We’re Happy You’re Here.”
The event will include readings from both authors, followed by an engaging conversation about the power of community in fostering artistic expression.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
“This event brings a meaningful cultural experience to our region,” said Irma de Visser, owner of Art Gallery Kimberley. “We’re proud to partner with the Kimberley Public Library to welcome these inspiring authors into a space where visual and literary arts meet.”
Jean Miller, Outreach Coordinator at Kimberley Public Library added, “It’s a real treat to team up with the art gallery and bring people together to celebrate stories, art, and creativity. It promises to be an inspiring evening. It’s completely free which makes it all the more accessible, and we’re thrilled to share the work of these talented Canadian authors with our community.”
Since 1985, the BC and Yukon Book Prizes have celebrated excellence in writing, illustration, and publishing, showcasing the remarkable talent found across the region.
Winners of the 2025 prizes will be announced on September 21, 2025, at the University Golf Club in Vancouver.
Join us for an inspiring evening that connects readers, writers, and the arts—right in the heart of Kimberley.
The event is free and open to all.
