City offering rebates for high efficiency toilets

The City of Kimberley is providing a rebate as an incentive to exchange a high volume toilet with an efficient low water consumption fixture.

Our High Efficiency Toilet Rebate Program aims to reduce the amount of clean water needed to flush toilets as well as reduce the amount of water treated as sewage. Bathroom plumbing fixtures represent 30 to 40 percent of domestic water use.  Typically, older toilets result in a substantial amount of water usage in a typical family home where toilets are flushed on average five times/day or more.

Residents wanting to participate in the Program are required to remove their inefficient toilet (13L/flush or greater) and install a High Efficiency Toilet (HET).  These toilets have a maximum 4.8 L/ flush or average 6 L/ flush if installing a dual flush unit.  Commercial, institutional and industrial buildings are required to install a maximum six L /flush toilet or 1.9 L/flush urinal when replacing fixtures.  All toilets must bear a Canadian Approval label and the water usage on the fixture. (Eg. CSA, CUL or Warnock), non-approved models will not qualify for this rebate.

How to qualify

·       Pick up/download an application form from City Hall or HERE. Ensure you read the program guidelines.

·         Purchase a certified HET or dual flush toilet (must possess a Canadian approval label) and retain the receipt for your application (original receipt required-no copies accepted). Only toilets purchased and installed after January 1st 2013 are eligible.

·         A Disposal Verification Form from the Transfer Station is required.

Contact the Building Inspector for more details at 250-427-9655 or [email protected].

Note

The City of Kimberley has 50 rebates of $50 each available (maximum of two toilets per household), first come, first served. Commercial, institutional and industrial buildings are also eligible to apply for a rebate.

To qualify for a rebate complete an application form and submit all of the required documents to the City of Kimberley.  Any incomplete applications will not qualify for a rebate.
