Cuckoo Clock Preservation Project to begin
The Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce announced Oct. 19 that the Happy Hans Cuckoo Clock preservation project is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 23.
The planned project includes work on the exterior siding, roof, interior structure, mechanical and electrical systems, audio and sound systems and artistic components. The work, to be performed by All in Property Care and various contractors and artists, should be completed by mid-December 2023.
The Kimberley Arts Council Visual Arts Committee is assisting with a call to artists for the artistic components of the project.
The project is funded by Columbia Basin Trust, Heritage BC through the Heritage Legacy Fund, City of Kimberley, Regional District of East Kootenay, Kootenay Savings Credit Union, Mark Creek Lions Club, and Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce.
After considerable effort over the past year and a half, the Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce is excited to see this project begin.
While Kimberley has moved away from its Bavarian heritage, it was known as the Bavarian City of the Rockies for more than 35 years and the Happy Hans Cuckoo Clock serves as a great reminder of Kimberley’s history and remarkable transition in the 1970s that saw Kimberley transformed into a tourist destination.
Special thanks to our funders and to the community members for their donations and support for this project.
