Dynamiters’ Murdoch commits to BCIHL’s VIU Mariners

A career season has helped Kimberley Dynamiters forward Nate Murdoch get a commitment to play for the Vancouver Island University Mariners in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League next season.

In 35 games, the 6-2, 182-pound forward has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points. That matches his output from the previous two seasons in 69 games.

“I’m very excited to make the jump to university hockey and am ready to put in the work next year at Vancouver Island University,” said Murdoch. “I am very grateful for the opportunity and appreciate all the support from everyone around me.”

“Nate has become one of the hardest players to play against in our league,” said Dynamiters head coach-general manager Derek Stuart. “His speed, determination and work ethic every single game are too much for most players to compete with. Everyone in the organization and the City of Kimberley are extremely proud of this opportunity he has earned.”

This season Murdoch has improved his puck protection ability and he’s been able to hold onto the puck longer under pressure and wait for better options to open for plays. He’s also improved his leadership on ice.

“Coach Stuart has given me as much on-ice practice time as possible to grow my skillset,” he said. “He’s also given me opportunities in games to show college coaches what I offer and helped me get my name out there to college and university coaches this year.”
