Dynamiters’ Murphy commits to NCAA D3 squad
Jackson Murphy of the Kimberley Dynamiters has signed to play for the Lawrence University Vikings in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 3 next fall.
The Calgary native enjoyed a career season offensively, leading the Dynamiters with 46 points in 43 games, which ranked third among all Kootenay International Junior Hockey League defencemen.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity, and everyone’s support along the way,” said Murphy. “I’m very excited to make the jump to college hockey.”
Dynamiters head coach-general manager Derek Stuart said that Jackson has vastly improved each year he has been in Kimberley and has become an elite defenceman in the KIJHL.
“He has made a significant contribution to our program on- and off-the-ice and we are all extremely proud of him,” said Stuart.
Murphy said his time in the organization has “been awesome.”
“My teammates and coaches have helped me every step of the way to become the hockey player I am today,” he said. “This past season I worked on my skating and positioning without the puck.”
