Four lost skiers found by Kimberley SAR Family Day
Kimberley Search and Rescue (SAR) Feb. 17 responded to a call to assist four lost skiers who ventured out of bounds at Kimberley Alpine Resort.
“We encountered some complexities on this call, which forced our teams into a ground rescue, using snowmobiles,” SAR reported on social media.
“PSA: Please, if and when a search and rescue operation is underway, keep all drones grounded. When an uncontrolled aircraft is in the sky we are forced to abandon any use of aircraft which can aid us in a search and rescue situation.
“The use of helicopters increases our response time in reaching subjects and moving them away from hazardous environments. Winter especially poses a higher risk as hypothermia is a big concern.
“The subjects in this situation were reached by our ground crews and transferred to BCEHS,” SAR said.
