Kimberley council highlights

DELEGATION – RCMP 

Sgt. Laurie Jalbert, RCMP, Kimberley Detachment presented the Mayor’s Report – 4th Quarter, 2011, during the Feb. 27 regular meeting of City of Kimberley council.

KIMBERLEY & DISTRICT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Winter Games Legacy Fund Grants were approved to be distributed as recommended by the Kimberley and District Community Foundation:

Kimberley North Star Skating Club $1,000

Kimberley North Star Ski Racers $700

Kimberley Speed Skating Association $800

Kimberley Indoor Sports Centre Society $1,200

Kimberley Curling Club $1,000

East Kootenay Volleyball Club  $600

L.E.E.S. Learning Centre & Spark Youth Drop In   $500

Total:  $5,800

GRANT APPROVAL

Grant approval was received from the UBCM Local Government Program Services for the 2012 Age-friendly Community Projects (Senior’s Housing & Support Initiative) for the Grand-Friends Seniors-Youth Mentoring Program in the amount of $20,000.

ORDER OF BC – 2012

A Call for Nominations for the Order of British Columbia 2012, was received and the Chief Administrative Officer asked to review.

COMMUNITY BOOSTER AWARD

Council received a request from the Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce regarding the Community Booster Award and agreed to provide a $350 grant for the Kimberley Business Award.

Second ANNUAL BULLARAMA

A request from the Jr. Dynamiters Hockey Club to hold the 2nd Annual Bullarama at the Civic Centre to be held May 5 was approved.

2013 BOABC CONFERENCE

Council agreed to provide a letter of support for the 2013 Building Officials Association of British Columbia (BOABC) Conference to be held in Kimberley.

BC TRANSIT – SERVICE CHANGE

Council supported the initiation of a Service Change Plan and will request BC Transit proceed with the implementation of service changes with up to 1,100 expansion hours within the 2012/13 operating agreement period ending March 31, 2013.  City  signatories were authorized to sign the Memorandum of Understanding.

MARYSVILLE DAZE 2012

Council agreed to waive the rental for the Marysville Arena to hold Marysville Daze, June 2 and 3.

MOVIE IN THE PARK

Council approved the request from the Kootenay Savings Credit Union to hold the Movie in the Park at Coronation Park on September 7.

PLATZL HOCKEY

Council approved the request for exemption of the rental of the Marysville Arena for Platzl Hockey to be held April 15.

UV DISINFECTION SYSTEM

Council accepted the quote from FOCUS Corporation in the amount of $112,110.00 for the Engineering and design of the UV System for the Kimberley Waste Water Plant.

2012 1/2 TON PICKUP 4X4 AND 2012 TANDEM GRAVEL PUP

The low quote from Melody Motors in the amount of $24,612 including taxes, for the 2012 1/2 Ton Pickup 4×4, and the low quote from Columbia International in the amount of $36,730.40 including taxes, for the 2012 Tandem Gravel Pup, were accepted.

LEICA TOTAL STATION TS03 AND SPECTRA GL422 DUEL LASER

The low quote from Cansel Calgary in the amount of $10,931.20 including taxes, for the Leica Total Station TS03; and the low quote from Cansel Calgary in the amount of $2,503.29 for the Spectra GL422 Duel Laser, were accepted.

BYLAWS

“Bylaw No. 2442, City of Kimberley Zoning Bylaw No.  1850, 1994, Amendment No. 113, 2012”, was given first reading.

PUBLIC HEARING

A Public Hearing has been scheduled for: Monday, March 12, at Council Chamber, City Hall 6:45 p.m. “Bylaw No. 2442, City of Kimberley Zoning Bylaw No.  1850, 1994, Amendment No. 113, 2012”.

NEXT MEETING OF COUNCIL

The next Regular Meeting of Council will be held on Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m.
