Kimberley is B.C.’s Best Small Town
After more than 850,000 votes and 127 eliminations, Kimberley is the winner of The Search for B.C.’s Best Small Town, CBC British Columbia’s online bracket-style competition powered by seven weeks of audience participation and provincial pride.
The winner of the contest was revealed today on CBC Radio One morning shows across the province. In its final round, Kimberley succeeded Ucluelet, British Columbia, by more than 2,000 votes.
“The public broadcaster prioritizes connecting with local communities and B.C.’s small towns, like Kimberley, are diverse, unique and full of stories to tell,” said Shiral Tobin, Director, Journalism and Programming CBC, British Columbia. “The friendly competition bolstered small town pride, championed a sense of community and connected to the hearts of audiences across the province.”
“Well…we did it! Congratulations Kimberley, and thank you to all our neighbouring communities that helped us reach the top. And all of our loyal visitors who weighed in as well.
CBC TV is doing their 6 p.m. news hour live from The Platzl tonight. It starts at 7 p.m. (Mountain time). Let’s get a good crowd out to view it live,” stated Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick on social media.
“It is a great day to hang in The Platzl. The sun is shining. It is spring. Let’s enjoy our good fortune!”
As noted, CBC is in Kimberley to celebrate the news with local residents with special prizes and CBC Vancouver News at 6 (7 p.m. Mountain) with host Dan Burritt will broadcast live from the community.
