Kimberley students win national arts prize
FORED BC Society sponsored its annual National Forest Week youth artwork, photography and video contest with cash prizes again this year.
The theme was: Canada’s Forests: Supporting Biological Diversity. Our forests support ecological diversity, from providing homes for animals and new plants (ex. nursing stumps) to supporting humans for our various uses, all key to a healthy ecosystem.
Many entries were received from youths (ages five to18), all across British Columbia and Canada as part of FORED’s Youth Engaging Sustainability (YES) program.
Cash prizes were awarded to four Canadian youth winners, including to École Francophone Kimberley’s grades 4 and 5 class.
“Every year, we are impressed with the talents of youth artists who contribute their original photos, videos and artwork to our National Forest Week Contest. Their ability to blend artistic expression and an appreciation of all the diverse values of our forests is truly admirable,” said Bart Zych, FORED BC Society’s Voluntary Chair.
