Kimberley’s favourite night out is back
The Kimberley Farmers’ Market will kick off its fourth season on June 22, running until September 7.
It’s time to gather again on Howard Street (from 5 to 7:30 p.m.) to catch up with old friends, shop and celebrate the bounty of our community. We have a full season of food, crafts, music and community ahead!
The Kimberley Farmers Market began in 2012 as part of Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook’s local Food Sustainability initiatives. In addition to the vibrant farmers’ market, Wildsight contributes to local food security through our Open Gate Garden and Apple Capture Project.
This is the Kimberley Farmers’ Market’s second year participating in the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program. This healthy eating initiative offers expecting and new parents with marginal incomes with coupons to purchase nutritious fruit, vegetables, meat and eggs and herbs at the Market. This year the program has expanded to include 20 families, up from 15 last year. This program has been very well received by participants, the vendors and the community.
We have a full vendor line up for the first market! Some of the products will include fresh fruit and vegetables, potted plants, wild harvested mushrooms, farm eggs, cut flowers, honey, handmade jewelry, jam, jerky, tea, dried herbs, locally handcrafted and distilled spirits, hard cider, sparking wine, fresh baked artisan bread and many more baked treats and hand-crafted products.
Don’t worry about dinner, we have it covered: with handmade Chinese dumplings, homemade curries, soups, fresh mini donuts, lemonade and more.
Local musician Charlie Harding will be there to entertain you as you stroll down the market to shop or sample.
Have you ever wondered which of the beautiful spring plants that are in bloom right now are native, and which are invasive? The East Kootenay Invasive Species Council will be joining us to kick off our educational programming with a weed walk prior to the market opening. Meet the EKISC crew at 4:30 p.m. at their booth near the Kimberley Dance Academy. They will remain at the market after the weed walk to answer your questions.
We have a number of themes and activities planned throughout the season. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for details!
We look forward to seeing you at the market!
