Mayor McCormick to not seek re-election
City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick has announced he will not seek re-election in this October’s municipal election.
“After 15 years on Kimberley city council, 12 as your Mayor, I will not be running for re-election in the fall,” McCormick stated on social media.
“Although this feels early to be announcing, almost every conversation I have these days starts with ‘are you running again?’ I have been candid with those who have asked, but it is time that I formally declare that I will not be seeking another term,” he said.
“It has been an incredible 15 years. I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish together. To the 14 elected officials I have worked with, city staff, the many stakeholder groups and residents that care so much for this community, thank you for your friendship and your support.
“But there is much more to come. I have a fairly long list of things I need to accomplish before the end of the term, and I will be working hard to make that happen,” Mayor McCormick concluded. “Please stay tuned.”
Municipal, regional district and school board election Day is October 17.
