Missing hiker found deceased
A visitor from Australia who went missing June 11 has been located deceased, Kimberley RCMP reported this afternoon (June 13).
On June 11, Kimberley RCMP was alerted about a 25-year-old woman who had not been heard from her roommate since the previous day. The roommate was concerned for the woman, who was visiting the area from Australia, and enjoyed hiking and the outdoors.
Frontline officers located the woman’s vehicle parked near Bear Lake.
Search and Rescue, along with the RCMP’s Police Dog Services, and the use of a drone, were engaged in the search.
“Unfortunately, searchers found the woman, deceased. The death is not considered suspicious,” Kimberley RCMP said.
The RCMP continues to support the BC Coroner Service during their investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
Police have not released the name of the deceased.
