Nitros remain top five in KIJHL Power Rankings
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Power Rankings for Week 6.
The Kelowna Chiefs are not ready to give up their top spot in the Power Rankings.
The Chiefs outlasted the Sicamous Eagles in an offensive marathon 9-7 on Oct. 24. Trailing 4-3 after 40 minutes, the Chiefs outgunned Sicamous 6-3 in the third period. Owen Ivanov scored the winner, while Rylan Konecsni led the Chiefs’ attack with three goals and five points. The Chiefs picked up their second weekend win 4-3 in overtime against the Osoyoos Coyotes. They let a 3-0 lead slip, but Konecsni scored the winner at 2:29 of overtime. Michael Makowsky made 36 saves to earn his seventh win.
The Princeton Posse jumped a spot to No. 2 with a pair of wins. The duo of Bryton Morrow and Justice Loewen couldn’t be stopped as they combined for 10 points in a 5-2 win against Merritt. Morrow netted four goals, while Loewen pocketed five assists. The Posse then shutout the 100 Mile House Wranglers – Sam Koester earned his second straight shutout in a 30-save performance on Sunday.
The Creston Valley Thunder Cats also jump a spot to No. 3 after splitting their weekend games. The Thunder Cats lost 4-1 to the Revelstoke Grizzlies, then bounced back for a 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Rockets. Jordan Gale led the Thunder Cats with two points, including the overtime winner. Brody Rotar made 38 saves on 40 shots.
The Beaver Valley Nitehawks return to the Power Rankings. They earned a 5-2 win over the Kamloops Storm on Saturday, Oct. 25. Brady Magarrell’s 10th of the season won the game with Michiel Leenders setting him up. Leenders had a hand in the Nitehawks’ first three goals. Preston Shumate stopped 30 of 32 shots to earn his fourth win.
The Kimberley Dynamiters held their No. 5 spot after defeating the Columbia Valley Rockies 6-4 in their lone game. Nolan Kelly scored the winner with his ninth of the season. Adam Kisilevich stopped 18 of 22 shots for his sixth win in eight games.
