Notes from City Hall
It’s that time of year to submit a Renewal Agreement for Downtown Sidewalk Café Patios. Forms can be found on the City of Kimberley’s website or are available for pick up at City Hall front reception area. Outdoor Burning
All outdoor burning within the City of Kimberley is regulated under Bylaw No. 2364 and must be approved by the Kimberley Fire Department. Special occasion burning permits will be issued by the Fire Chief for fires in parks or recreation areas, burns for land clearing, and for approved barbecue pits for cooking purposes. It is unlawful to burn without a permit, to burn construction materials, to burn yard debris, or to burn in an outside barrel or outside incinerator. All approved burning within the City of Kimberley must be supervised at all times and have sufficient equipment on site to extinguish or control the burn.
Pitch-In Canada
Operation ‘Clean Sweep’ will be held from April 22 to 29. This is open to any groups, neighbourhoods, schools, or individuals that would like to help clean up along the trails, streets, or fields & parks. Take a photo of your group and we will share it on the city’s Facebook page! To register and receive five free garbage bags please call the Operations Department at 250-427-9660.
Creek Water Level Warning
Be advised that water levels can change rapidly, and are especially high during spring run-off. Flows are extremely fast when water levels are high and present an extreme danger to anyone falling in the creek. Please stay clear of the creeks during periods of high flow.
Feeding Deer
The Bylaw Officer has been receiving several complaints of residents feeding deer in residential neighbourhoods. Did you know this is in contravention of the City of Kimberley Deer Feeding Bylaw No. 2296, 2006? Fines up to $500 can be issued to anyone caught feeding deer. Deer are often left foods that are unhealthy for their diets. This causes harm to the deer and leads to digestive upset, and potentially even death. Dog Etiquette
Please keep your dog on a leash in public places within city limits including the Rails-to-Trails. There are a few designated off-leash area within the city, please check out the website for more information. Remember to pick up your dog’s excrement on all trailheads, use the bags provided and place it in the receptacles. If you notice that the bag holder is empty contact the Animal Control Officer at 250-427-6460. Please be conscientious of everyone who uses the trails, as no one likes to step in dog doo! Let’s all pitch in to keep our trails clean and clear.
The Scoop about Pet Waste
If you are disposing of pet waste, please remember to place it in securely tied, double plastic bags (i.e. pet waste bags or shopping bags) before putting it in the larger bag contained inside your garbage bin. This will help ensure the safety of our Solid Waste Collection Operators and is a requirement pursuant to section 5.3 of the City of Kimberley Solid Waste Regulations & Rates Bylaw No. 2520.
The Aquatic Centre is offering the course on Friday, May 4 from 2 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $89.79 and candidates must attend all dates and times of the courses. Free Family Swim
Come to the Aquatic Centre and enjoy a Free Family Swim on Wednesday, April 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. sponsored by the Kimberley Health Care Auxiliary. Remember persons 18 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
