The City of Kimberley Wildfire Fuels Management program currently has six projects underway in the Nature Park, Nordic Park and Forest Crowne areas. Crews are reducing tree density, chipping, and burning piles in these areas so please pay attention to any signage and notices that may be posted. Smoke will be visible for the next couple of months. If you have any questions, please contact the Fire Department, Monday – Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 250-427-4114 or email at [email protected]
Notice of Construction
The City of Kimberley plans to complete phase one of the Fourth Avenue Rehabilitation Project this year, from Boundary Street to Trail Street. Construction is planned to start as early as mid-April and will continue into the early fall months. The first phase of the project will consist of replacing the water, sewer and storm utilities, as well as complete reconstruction of this integral piece of roadway.
Traffic delays along Fourth Avenue are expected for the duration of the project. This will affect all residents that need to access Townsite, including Garden View Village, Kimberley Health Centre and Clinic, Kimberley Special Care Home (The Pines), and Lindsay Park Elementary School.
The traffic pattern will be reduced to single lane alternating traffic for the majority of the projects duration. The City of Kimberley apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation in following the traffic changes throughout the construction and ensuring a safe working environment for our crews.
Further information with respect to the project will be released closer to the project start date, please visit www.kimberley.ca to watch for further updates.
Catch Basins
The city is requesting public help keeping snow, ice and debris off catch basins. Please report any blocked catch basins to the Operations Department at 250-427-9660 or [email protected]
Spring has sprung, and the snow and ice is melting quickly. To prevent damage from melt water, homeowners are encouraged to take action to protect their own property. Plan how to divert melt water away from buildings and to help keep that path clear, use sandbags to help direct water, if needed. City crews will be prioritizing melt water issues and only be addressing melt water concerns on city property that may pose risk to private property. The city appreciates any help provided by the public in keeping catch basins working effectively during these melt water periods.
Spring Street Sweeping
As the weather permits over the next few weeks, the Operations Department will be deploying street sweeping equipment. This process targets the removal of gravel and dust from the streets after winter sanding. You can do your part by sweeping the gravel from your sidewalk onto the street edge where the street sweeper will be able to access it. To further assist with the street sweeping, please move vehicles off the paved portion of the roadway when the sweeping equipment is working in your area. The Operations Department thanks you for your cooperation in making this process as efficient and effective as possible.
Dogs on the Rails-to-Trails
The Animal Control Officer would like to remind dog owners that the Rails to Trails pathway is NOT an off-leash area. All dogs are required to be on leash while walking on this paved pathway. Off-leash dogs pose a safety hazard to bicycle riders, other people utilizing the trail, and other on-leash dogs. Please pick up after your dogs and dispose of their excrement in the trash receptacles that are provided by the City of Kimberley.
