Notes from City Hall
Kimberley City Hall and the Public Works Yard will be closed on Monday, July 1 for the Canada Day statutory holiday.
FINAL NOTICE Property Tax Deadline
Property Tax Notices have been mailed to all property owners on record. The deadline for payment of your 2019 property taxes is July 2 at 4:45 p.m., after which time a 10% penalty will be added to any unpaid current year taxes. If you haven’t received your Tax Notice yet, please contact City Hall at 250-427-5311 or [email protected] and request that a copy be forwarded to you.
Payment of your property taxes can be made by mail, in person at City Hall, by phone or Internet banking, or at most financial institutions. Cheques postdated to July 2, will be accepted at City Hall in advance of the deadline. If paying by mail or electronic methods, please allow time for your payment to arrive at City Hall by the deadline. Post marks on mailed remittances will not be considered as date of payment. Receipt of electronic payments will be recorded as of the date and time the funds are posted to the City’s bank account and not when the payment is transmitted by your financial institution.
Please remember to either complete the Home Owner Grant application that is attached to the bottom of the Tax Notice and remit it to City Hall, or complete the online application to claim the Grant. A 10% penalty will be applied to any Home Owner Grant amounts not claimed by the deadline of July 2 at 4:45 p.m.
Recreational Vehicles
Residents are reminded that while recreational vehicles are allowed to be parked on the street, they cannot be occupied as living quarters. As per City of Kimberley Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1877, 1995, Section 409, no person shall occupy a vehicle, recreational vehicle, trailer or container as living quarters while it is parked on any street or in any other public place.
Pets and Hot Weather
With the weather warming up, the Animal Control/Bylaw officer would like to remind people not to leave your pets in vehicles. Animals confined in an unventilated vehicle can quickly succumb to the high temperatures and die of heat stroke. Please leave your animals at home where they will be more comfortable. The MTI Bylaw 2540, Animal Control Schedule Section 10, allows for a $150 fine for animals left in an enclosed space unventilated vehicle. Let’s keep our dogs safe this summer!
