An outstanding Christmas concert
Selkirk Secondary School music department held its Christmas concert Dec. 13 at McKim Theatre.
The band and choir each performed a repertoire of songs for audience. Prior to the concert and during the intermission, the student band, Kind of Yellow performed. The band of five students have been working together for several months on a selection of songs, many of which are written by Gwen Davies (vocals and keyboard). The other members of the band, Emma MacLeod, (drums), Jeremy Woods (standing bass and guitar), Josh Newel (percussion) and Alejandro Blanco (violin). Alejandro is an international student from Spain who has a keen interest in music and very accomplished on the violin.
The band and choir are very popular with students and the program has grown considerably over the past few years under music director Sven Heyde. Practices are held each morning starting at 7:30 a.m. The students are committed to the program and have done an outstanding job.
