The best option and best value for taxpayer dollars
By Mayor Don McCormick
Of all the infrastructure projects the City of Kimberley has planned in the next five years, the replacement of the Waste Water Treatment (sewage) Plant is the most important.
Thanks to everyone who attended the Sept. 28 open house.
In summary:
– The city has been working on this replacement for better than five years;
– A technology, a supplier; and a detailed design are all in place;
– How we are going to pay for it is in place – a combination of cash from reserves, borrowing and grants;
– ‘Value engineering’ is completed (a third party engineering assessment of the design) as required by the province to be eligible for a grant;
– And also as required by the province, a referendum question is on the October 15 ballot, asking residents to approve borrowing.
The engineers have also looked at all available alternatives, and determined that the proposed design is the best option and best value for taxpayer dollars.
The open house last night was recorded. It will be available very soon.
Go here for more detailed information, and to ask specific questions.
Questions asked at the open house will be added to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the city website.
A strong ‘yes’ vote will help deliver a clear message in support of our grant application.
More to come as we near October 15.
