A solemn reminder and a call to action

By MLA Scott McInnis

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a solemn reminder of Residential Schools and their lasting impacts on Indigenous peoples in Canada.  It is also a call to action for all of us to work together toward meaningful change.

As we reflect on the past, we must also look forward—committed to building relationships rooted in respect, transparency, and a shared purpose. Reconciliation is not a one-day event, but an ongoing journey that requires listening, learning, and acting together.

As the critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, I believe that opportunity and progress should never come at the expense of culture and identity.

We can grow our communities, strengthen our economy, and improve outcomes for all British Columbians—Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike—by tackling real issues collaboratively. When we focus on practical solutions and inclusive partnerships, we create a future where tradition and innovation walk hand-in-hand.

– Scott McInnis is Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA and Conservative Party critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation
