National Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration June 18

Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child and Family Service Society (KKCFSS ) invites you to a celebration of National Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Wednesday, June 18, at Rotary Park in Cranbrook.

The event runs from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and will honour this year’s theme: “ksukiⱡ̓q̓ukamaⱡnam,” which is Ktunaxa for “community.”

The event will feature drumming, traditional dancing, booths and displays, food, speeches, and more—bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the strength, diversity, and unity of Indigenous cultures.

“We at KKCFSS love honouring National Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a family friendly event that celebrates and uplifts Indigenous culture,” said Smokii Sumac, Cultural Lead, KKCFSS. “This event is open to all, and we hope that you’ll come join us for lunch, activities, drumming and dancing!”

The event is free and open to all. We are offering a welcoming space for learning, sharing, and honouring the rich history of Indigenous Peoples throughout the Ktunaxa Nation and beyond.
