Prescribed burns planned in Creston area
To help reduce the risk of wildfires, BC Wildfire Service is supporting yaqan nuʔkiy (Lower Kootenay Band) in conducting two prescribed burns in the Creston area.
The Highway 21 prescribed burn is located on Creston IR1 along Highway 21 and will cover up to nine hectares. The Yaminqan prescribed burn is located between Sanca and Kuskanook and will cover up to five hectares.
The exact timing of these projects will depend on weather and site conditions, but could begin as early as Monday, March 23.
Smoke may impact residents near the burn areas and may be visible from Creston, Sanca, Sirdar and the surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 3, Highway 3A, and Highway 21.
