New no parking
Noting safety and visibility concerns raised by the community, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) will be asking the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to install  ‘No Parking’ signs along Hot Springs Road in Fairmont in the vicinity of Tony’s Greek Grill.

Columbarium one step closer
The RDEK will be making application for a Certificate of Public Interest to establish a Columbarium at the Wasa Memorial Garden.

New Area F representative for Invermere Library
Ronald Stainthorpe was June 10 appointed as the Electoral Area F representative on the Invermere Public Library Board for the term expiring December 31, 2013.

Discretionary Grants in Aid
– The Rockies Rowing Club will receive $1,000 from the Electoral Area C discretionary grants in aid (DGIA) account to go towards the construction of a new boat storage rack and equipment repairs.
– The Cranbrook 4th Scouts will receive $1,650 from the Electoral Area C DGIA account to help offset costs associated with their participation in the Pacific Jamboree this July at Camp Byng on the Sunshine Coast.
– The Kimberley Nordic Club will receive $5,000 from the Electoral Area E DGIA account for their storage/maintenance building project. The project will provide safe, secure storage and an indoor maintenance area for the club’s equipment.
– The Lake Windermere Ambassadors will receive $1,000 from the Electoral Area F DGIA account for the Windermere Regatta and Water Stewardship Event on Saturday, July 23, during the Columbia Valley Summerlude celebrations.
– The Windermere Valley Childcare Society will receive $500 from the Electoral Area F DGIA account. The funds will help offset the Society’s operating costs.
– The Columbia Wetlands Stewardship Partners will receive $1,000 from the Electoral Area G DGIA account for the Radium Overlook Project. The funds will be used to install large boulders along the access road to discourage illegal dumping and vehicle access to the site.
