16-year-old Jeff Rayman played all three games on opening weekend

By George Hurlbut

Sixteen-year-old Jeff Rayman played all three of the Fernie Ghostriders games last weekend and head coach Barry Wolff said Rayman, “Was steady defensively and played with a strong work ethic.”

A strong work ethic is probably some kind of coaching code for “ferocious hitter,” I think. Rayman stands 6’3” and through hard work and genetics tips the scales at an intimidating 195 pounds and came to the Ghostrider camp after attending the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs camp last month for an evaluation.

We asked Chief’s head scout Chris Moulton what he had this to say about Jeffrey’s time in Spokane’s main camp. Here’s what he said.

“Jeff did quite well at Chiefs’ camp.  It took him some time to gain some confidence and get used to the speed of play but once he settled in he did quite well. He simplified his game and made plays and things got easier for him.  I was proud of how he played.”

The Riders opened their 2012/13 KIJHL season home schedule last Saturday against the Golden Rockets and skated away with an 8-2 victory.
