Boxer loses – wins cash

In his younger years, Chris Brock was a B.C. Bronze Glove, and Great Northwest Regional Champion with the Double E Boxing Club. After his career ended he slid into a sedentary way of living. In March 2010, he came to the conclusion (with a little nudge from his wife) that he wanted to make a healthy change. He started attending workouts at ‘Bootcamp’ three times a week.  He didn’t set out to win the challenge that came next, but he did.

In November, “Boxing Chris” participated in the Six Week Challenge held by Train Hard, Live Easy – Total Fitness in Cranbrook.  “Our regular workouts are called ‘Bootcamp’,” said Steve MacDonald, head fitness trainer (or owner) “but we wanted to take it a step further, not only offering intense workouts but a new way of eating, thus was born the Six Week Challenge.

The Six Week Challenge incorporates an ‘old’ way of eating along with regular exercise. At stake were a cash pot and the benefit of losing weight. “Exercise alone doesn’t usually get you the result you would like to see, you’ll see a difference in inches and performance but not necessarily in weight loss. To lose weight you have to eat properly, we make it easy with ‘Everyday Paleo’ and our 80/20 rule (as in 80% of the time you eat properly and 20% of the time you can eat and drink the naughty foods like sweets and salty snacks) along with shopping lists and meal plans,” said MacDonald.

“I was excited to eat like a caveman,” said Brock, “the food places an emphasis on organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed meat, wild meat and no processed foods. There is no calorie counting or portion measuring. What could be simpler than that?”

Brock worked out and ate along with 27 other entrants. “The results speak for themselves. At first it was a struggle to workout regularly, but I started to feel better and notice my weight drop, add that to the Paleo way of eating, I am quite pleased with the results and would recommend it to anyone.”

“Throughout the challenge, Chris came to workouts four days a week and sometimes twice in one day. He always had a smile on his face and no matter how hard he had to work he was a pleasure to have there. He continually pushed himself to do more than he had before. He had a fantastic attitude and deserved to win the $540 in cash,” said MacDonald.

“This year we are going further with our contest, we are offering a 2012 New Year, New You 12-week challenge. We want to help people make a full body transformation by creating changes on a cellular level. The workouts and Paleo way of eating allow us to do that,” said MacDonald.

“It paid off for me in more ways than one,” smiles Brock.
