A glorious Gran Fondo
About 360 riders took part in the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club organized 2014 Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo Sept. 7.
Under crisp, blue skies, riders participated in three different route length races, all beginning and ending at St. Eugene Resort and Casino.
The shortest route (57 kms) was the Piccolo, which rolled to NorthStar Rails-to-Trails to Kimberley, through the Platzl and back to the Rails-to-Trail to Wycliffe Road and back to the resort.
The Medio (120 kms) had riders roll to Kimberley then down Highway 95A to Highway 93/95 to Wasa, Fort Steele and back up to Cranbrook and St. Eugene.
And the longest route was the Gran (152 kms), which had riders turn at Fort Steele and cycle a section of the Wardner-Bull River Road and back to the highway and up to Cranbrook and St. Eugene.
