ICE add 20-year-old forward from Rockets
Kootenay ICE General Manager Jeff Chynoweth continues to tinker with his roster, adding a 20-year-old forward today from the Kelowna Rockets.
Chynoweth announced this morning (Jan. 8) that Zach Franko has been obtained from the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft and a third round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Heading into the WHL Trade Deadline our primary goal was to add a 20-year-old forward. We are very excited to add a player with the credentials of Zach Franko. Not only is he a top six forward who will provide much needed offence to our team, but he comes from an organization that knows how to win,” added Chynoweth.
Franko was a second round selection (32nd overall) in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft and is in his fourth season in the WHL.
Franko, a 5’11”, 181 lb. left wing from Winnipeg, Man., will be in the ICE line-up this Friday when Kootenay hosts Edmonton Oil Kings at 7 p.m. He has scored 12 goals and 23 assists in 39 games this season, with 10 penalty minutes. He scored 72 points in 69 games last season.
As a result of today’s transaction the ICE are now carrying 23 players, including two goaltenders, eight defenseman and 13 forwards.
