With the Western Hockey League (WHL) trade deadline winding down, the Kootenay Ice have announced that they have traded 18-year-old forward Brendan Hurley to the Medicine Hat Tigers for a third round draft pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

“With all our veteran players and returning 16-year-olds from the Under 17 Tournament Brendan was concerned with the ice time he would be getting moving forward. Ideally we would have liked to move him for a roster player, but when that didn’t materialize the draft pick was our next best option. The third round pick in 2012 will replace the one we traded to Swift Current in the Cody Eakin deal last January.  We would like to thank Brendan for this time here and wish him all the best in Medicine Hat,” stated Jeff Chynoweth, Ice general manager on the team’s website.

Hurley, a former first round selection (15^th overall in 2008) scored three goals and added three helpers in 26 games this season.

The trade leaves the Ice with 12 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies for the remainder of the 2011-2012 schedule.
