Kimberley Atom Dynamiters win big last weekend
By Chris Newel
The Kimberley Atom Dynamiters came out undefeated in a hockey tournament held here last weekend.
There were 10 teams from southeastern B.C. and Alberta, including Invermere, Fernie, Cranbrook, Banff, Fort MacLeod, Pincher Creek and three Calgary teams.
The Dynamiters started off Friday night with a win against Invermere. Early Saturday morning they took on Banff and came out well ahead. Next up was Fort Macleod, even though a number of their players were pretty big it was another win. Saturday afternoon against Bow Valley was a fast paced game with Kimberley scoring in the first 27 seconds. At one point, while the Atom Dynamiters were serving a penalty, Bow Valley pulled their goalie making it six on four, but they managed to hold on and no goals were scored.
Sunday afternoon was the finals against the undefeated Southland team out of Calgary. But the Dynamiters pulled off a 9-4 win!
Big thanks to the organizers Tanya D’Etcheverrey and Kristen Daprocida, head coach Shane Murray and assistant coaches, Cory Miller, Charlie Cooper and Darren Close.
A huge thanks to a number of sponsours in the Kimberley and Cranbrook area, including, Teck, Chalet Chev, Northstar Motors, East Kootenay Realty, Subway, RBC, Finning, The Brick, A & W, Canadian Tire, Rocky’s Ski and Snowboard, Burrito Grill, Kimberley Aquatic Center, Mountain Spirit Resort, Overwaitea, Grubsteak Pizza, Player’s Bench, McDonalds, The Healing Hollow, Staples, Kootenay Ice, Selkirk Beverages, Northstar Mountain Resort , Kowal Construction and Chanin Murray.
