Parkland tops out at Spartans’ Tourney
By Marija Caron

The Sparwood Spartans Bantam Girls’ Tournament (say that five times quickly) held a fantastic tournament at their high school last weekend.
Teams from around the Elk Valley including Fernie, Elkford, Jaffray and two teams from Cranbrook played fiercely. The Parkland Middle School team beat out fellow Cranbook Laurie Middle School team for first place.
Coach Lorne Cook of the Spartan Girls Team thanked everyone for participating and he added extra acknowledgement to the refs who came out.
Huge crowds turned out for both days.
In two weeks time, February 12 and 13, Sparwood will be hosting the East Kootenay tournament, where all the local teams will be fighting for the championship.

We are hoping for a great turnout and welcome parents, relatives and friends to come out to watch and cheer these girls on. There are some heart stopping moments while they play and alot of laughter and cheering from the proud Moms, Dads and Grandparents who cheer from the stands. Hope to see you there, Go Spartans!
