Local woman continues to impact COTR Avs

Having played club volleyball from Grades 5 to 12, Andrea Taylor is now in her fourth year as left side for College of the Rockies’ Women’s Avalanche.

Taylor, who was voted Most Valuable Player in her Grade 12 year, as well as in her second year with the Avalanche, is currently the captain of the 2012/2013 team.

College of the Rockies was an easy choice when Taylor was looking to start her post-secondary education.  “I liked being able to stay in my hometown and being able to keep playing sports as part of the Avalanche was important to me,” Taylor says.  “The program I was interested in was also available to me here.”

Taylor is currently enrolled in the Kinesiology program at College of the Rockies with a goal of eventually earning a Bachelor degree and becoming a physical education teacher.

Agata Bendkowska, coach of the Women’s Avalanche team, is happy to have Taylor onboard. “Andrea is a great leader on the floor and has great strength to power through blocks with her hits. She leads the team in kills and is a great contributor to team energy with her determination to win at all times,” she remarks.

Taylor is enjoying her role as leader with the Avalanche.  “I love being the captain as a fourth year player and being able to lead the team.  I like being there to support the girls as we work toward our goal of reaching Provincials.  We have an amazing team this year with great skill and team cohesion.  I am very excited to see what happens as we finish out the season,” she adds.
